Deanna Tigs, the regional director of oncology support services for Robert Wood Johnson, was invited to speak at the meeting. Tigs expressed her appreciation for the invitation and reinforced the community's commitment to eradicating lung cancer.


"We are committed at Cedar Community Medical Center, part of the RWJ Barnabas Health, and with our partnership with Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, to serving the community and providing education," Tigs said. "We also provide screening and help facilitate care of patients with lung cancer and hopefully prevent that as well." Tigs also mentioned that 80% of lung cancer is due to cigarette smoking. The council presented Tigs with a proclamation and took a photo to commemorate the event. The council meeting served as a reminder of the importance of lung cancer awareness and the need for continued efforts to prevent and treat the disease.
