Edison, NJ (GovWire)- The Township of Edison Zoning Board of Adjustment recently approved a use variance for Phoenix Realty and Management LLC to permit a school bus depot on the existing property at 651 King George Post Rd. The existing commercial building is to remain, and the standards have not been met in accordance with the master plan.
During the meeting, the owner of the property and managing member of Phoenix Realty LLC, Ashok Bojani, testified that the new tenant, NELVI Transit Inc., serves various school systems in and around the county, including Edison Township. The site will be used for bus maintenance and storage, with a maximum of 33 vehicles parked at any given time. The hours of operation will be from 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and no work will be performed outside the building.
John P DuPont, a licensed professional engineer and planner, testified that the site is particularly well suited for the proposed use and that there will be no negative impacts on the community. He also stated that the site is currently being used as an industrial site and that they are making some improvements, including increasing the lighting and fencing and screening.
Board member Mr. Bruno expressed his concern about the impact on the neighbors and requested that no work be done on any vehicle outside of the building. Mr. Bojani agreed to this condition, and the board approved the application.
The approval of the school bus depot is expected to be beneficial to the community, providing essential services to the Township of Edison's school buses. The board's decision to grant the variance was made without substantial detriment to the public good, and the benefits of the project will substantially outweigh any detriment.
