Residents Raise Concerns Over Marijuana Store Near School

GovWire

EDISON, NJ (GovWire) - A marijuana store looking to open near Lindenau Elementary School has sparked concern among residents of Edison and Highland Park. The store, called Anja, is located at 225 Woodbridge Ave, technically on Highland Park property, but its location violates the Edison Cannabis Ordinance.

At a recent Board of Education meeting, Jonathan Phillips, a resident of Highland Park, spoke out about the issue. He stated that the store is less than 1000 feet from the nearest Edison home and less than 1000 feet from Saint Theresa's Church on Fox.

Phillips urged Edison residents to get in touch with Sam Joshi and the council to take action on this issue. He also mentioned that Highland Park is expected to give a resolution authorizing the opening of the store in a couple of weeks, so action needs to be taken quickly.

Phillips and other concerned residents have started a petition to raise awareness about the issue. They have also provided a QR code link to the petition and are encouraging residents to sign it.

The Board of Education listened to Phillips' concerns and thanked him for bringing the issue to their attention. It remains to be seen what action will be taken by the council and the residents of Edison and Highland Park.
